Loughton with Havwoods and Altro
Loughton Contracts with Havwoods & Altro at Science Museum, London. 3,000sq m of FSC softwood batten and plywood substructure was installed throughout the newly refurbished Medicine: The Wellcome Galleries exhibit at London’s iconic Science Museum gallery to provide a continuous level floor throughout. Engineered Oak Chevron boards from Havwoods were installed to the 150m long gallery. Directional changes of the chevron helped identify individual display areas with brass trims installed within the floor. Bespoke movement joints were supplied and installed to specific locations to allow for different movements between adjoining buildings. Reclaimed timber from the museum was installed into a mock pharmacy before being sanded and finished, as well as vinyl flooring from Altro fitted to back of house areas and even into a replica padded cell! Bespoke display cabinets sit perfectly on the timber flooring spanning a space equivalent to 1,500 hospital beds.
